The Edging & Gooning Dictionary: 120+ Terms Explained

Edging : the process of bringing yourself to the brink of an orgasm and then intentionally not letting go. When you’ve edged long enough, eventually you’ll fall into a floating, daze-like trance-state. That’s gooning. The rest of the vocabulary surrounding those two words is defined below. Every word in this lexicon was pulled from thousands of user-generated posts by the actual users of the language, not made up by someone who skimmed a trend piece.

Before you get scrolling through the definitions, please note that I have left this glossary purposely lengthy. Like the community that created the slang itself, there is a significant amount of slang. There is a mix of functional slang (like PONR, kegel exercises, and ruined orgasms); as well as poetic slang (like gooncano, goonbabble, and pumpies). And there is slang that is being misused so frequently that it can be confused with something else. For example: the distinction between edging and edge play, or why referring to a 10 minute handjob as “gooning” can make seasoned gooners roll their eyes.

When a term sends you looking for homework, look here: the list of edging tasks is the practice hub everything in this lexicon feeds into.

The Basics: Edging Terms

Edging

Purposeful delay of orgasm through self-stimulation (or a partner) to peak arousal levels and then slowing/stopping to prevent orgasm. In essence, traditional masturbation focuses on achieving an orgasm whereas edging achieves the opposite.

The edge

Although many describe ‘the edge’ as the point at which you’re close to an orgasm but stop or slow down to prevent it, the true definition of ‘the edge’ refers specifically to the instant at which you realize you’ll ejaculate. Experienced edgers generally believe that arriving at ‘the edge’ marks the beginning of the true experience of edging.

Riding the edge

Instead of stopping as quickly as possible when you feel you’re going to ejaculate, you continue to provide yourself with stimulation at a level below the orgasmic threshold. This enables you to stay aroused for a longer period of time. As veteran edgers will attest, ‘riding the edge’ is one step above basic edging. Furthermore, ‘riding the edge’ is vastly better than simply approaching and retreating repeatedly. Longtime veterans refer to this as “grip and pray”.

Start-and-stop

Popular among newbies: stroke or rub until you reach that first sensation that lets you know you’re going to have an orgasm. Then instantly cease all stimulation. Take a couple deep breaths to let the anticipation subside. Now repeat the process. One negative aspect of this technique is that if you completely stop stimulating yourself you may lose all arousal. Consequently, many choose to move to “cruise control”.

Cruise control

Methodology adapted from the automobile’s cruise control: instead of slamming on brakes (cease all stimulation), you merely ease off the gas pedal (slow stimulation). So, when you detect the edge approaching, you shift from rapid stimulation to very soft/gentle teasing until the immediate danger passes. Once past that point, you resume stimulation. This technique provides fewer abrupt starts and stops and thus enables further riding of the edge.

Point of no return (PONR)

That single instant when it becomes impossible to prevent an orgasm regardless of whether or not you discontinue stimulation. Both “riding the edge” and “start-and-stop” rely on identifying PONR and acting upon said signal. However, if you cross PONR incorrectly, you risk having a “ruined orgasm”.

The 1 to 10 arousal scale

Standard measuring stick employed by the community. One signifies no arousal; ten signifies orgasm; nine indicates PONR. Traditionally, advice is given along the lines of: raise arousal to eight and pause; and then resume at around four or five.

Arousal scale infographic from 1 to 10 showing the point of no return at 9

Session

Amount of time spent doing edging. Typically newbies dedicate 20 minutes; veterans claim best results come from 45 minute sessions; others claim best results can be achieved after a few hours; while some engage in marathon sessions lasting hours or even days. Members share their experiences similar to how runners share their run times on Fetlife’s edging forums: six hours; twelve hours; sixteen hours.

Edge debt

Accumulating desire generated from repetitive extended periods of edging and never releasing. With every subsequent session, there is always a little more desperation. Members who accumulate too much edge debt report persistent leaking and ache, and an inability to focus on anything except edging. A frustrated member put his thoughts quite concisely: “I feel less like a person and more like an edgetoy permanently set to overflow.”

Multi-day edging

Continuing sessions of edging over multiple days or weeks, enabling constant arousal in between. Debate continues as to whether leaks and ruins end the streak. Leaking precum is almost universally agreed not to break a streak; ruins are usually left up to individual interpretation between the partial-denial and full-denial camps.

Edge-fucking

Engaging in prolonged periods of edging during penetration-based sex activities. Rather than climaxing directly after penetrating (or thrusting) past the point of no return, edge-fuckers will either pull out at the last second or maintain perfect stasis (i.e., stillness) until the immediate threat has subsided and safe distance has been achieved. Edge-fucking is extremely difficult to control compared to manual stimulation; additionally, edge-fucking is woefully under-represented within pornography. A FetLife dominant provided a concise description of edge-fucking: “Using your vagina or penis as a tool for teasing and denying.”

Edge buddy

Individual(s) participating in simultaneous edge sessions with one another, either in-person or via remote connection. Edge buddies serve dual purposes: they help keep each other accountable (and/or unaccountable) about when to stop stimulation. Ultimately, many great stories in the community originated from two friends admitting that they both participate in edging and decide to do it together.

Edge play (not the same thing)

BDSM-related term encompassing various forms of physical and mental limit-pushing play (e.g., breath play, knife play, fear play). Absolutely unrelated to orgasm. If a kinkster states they enjoy “edge play,” it does not necessarily indicate they are enjoying edging. The identical nomenclature is coincidental and combining these terms in a negotiation would be incredibly dangerous.

Gooning Terms

Gooning

Going so far and so deeply that you fall into a trance. The community defines gooning as a mental condition (floaty, dazed, drunk-like feelings), and not as an act; people often experience a type of bliss, and will become nearly silent, and completely absorbed in the pleasure and porn. The best-known community FAQ describes it as “mindful mindlessness”. A ten minute wank does not qualify, no matter what TikTok says; if you never enter that state, you were just masturbating.

Goon state

This is the actual trance. This can include things such as: eyes turning glassy, time becoming unimportant, thoughts disappearing, a sense of being outside of your body during intense sexual arousal. Many of those who have experienced this state compare it to meditation, tantric practices, and lucid dreaming. One user who only ever reached it properly once described it: “I was non-verbal, couldn’t move much … it was profound.”

Gooner

A person who goons, or tries to. Since the term has entered the mainstream and is used to describe people who masturbate frequently, there are also people who call anyone who masturbates frequently a “gooner” just because he is masturbating frequently. However, the original gooners are adamant that in order to truly be called a “gooner”, one must spend hours of time actually gooning, not simply masturbating often. Confusingly, Arsenal football fans are also called Gooners. Context is everything.

Goonette

A female version of a gooner. Women make up a large portion of the users of the community: women who discuss hours spent rubbing themselves, women who engage in syntribation through errands, women who engage in edging throughout their workday and women who can out-goon their male partners. The use of the term is met with pride among members of the community, because for years, gooning was assumed to be a hobby exclusive to men, and the goonettes loudly proved otherwise.

Goonette in the wild

Shorthand for finding a woman quietly engaging in self-pleasure in a public place. It originated from a legend posted by a girl who had syntribated herself in a coffee shop arm chair. Now “in the wild” stories are their own distinct form of community entertainment. The etiquette for noticing a woman “in the wild” is that while it is perfectly acceptable to notice her, she should never be approached.

Goonbabble

The nonsensical, typo-ridden, ramblings of people who are in the midst of a goon: “pump pump pump,” “up and down,” “im gooning im gooning.” In fact, one of the community’s most popular jokes is that the degree of unreadability of a post is directly proportional to the level of horniness exhibited by the poster. Reading goonbabble is either ineffective or ruinous for your evening plans. There is no in-between.

Goon cave

An area designed solely for gooning: dark room(s) with multiple monitors/projector(s) available, easy access to toys/lubricants/headphones/water. Some goon caves are elaborate multi-monitor shrines; others are merely a laptop with a locked door. The phrase “goon recognizes goon” comes from a woman discovering her best friend’s goon cave immediately upon entering.

A goon cave setup, a dark desk with three glowing monitors and headphones

Gooncaving

To actually utilize the goon cave: to settle in for extended periods of time to immerse oneself in the goon experience with screens covering all walls. The first-time writer for one goon cave became a classic story in the community due to the lines: “the moans and sloppy sounds coming from six different directions… I needed nothing else in life. I was complete.” That’s exactly what she meant, without caps.

Gooncano

When someone finally ejaculates after a prolonged period of time of build-up. A combination of an orgasm and natural disaster. The term “gooncano” is relatively new slang created based on the obvious volcano joke, and is used for both the experience (“hit my gooncano at 2 am”), and the aftermath (“mess”).

Goon fuel

Anything used to help sustain a session: favorite folder/pornographer/creator/erotica/audio/personal posts. Often times, goon fuel is offered as an encouragement (“be my goon fuel”) to other posters on community forums, where encouraging filthy behavior for other strangers to engage in as part of their daily routine is considered a legitimate hobby.

Bating / bator

Terms for individuals who are masturbating/bators. These terms came from an older men’s masturbation culture that existed prior to the rise of gooning. Because there is significant overlap between these cultures (baters/gooners), there exists common terminology used by both communities (i.e., goonbate). The social aspect of both cultures is similar; bating as a group activity vs. individual masturbation.

Goon buddy

Similar to an edge buddy, but specific to gooning: someone to share pornography with/ramble at/trade encouragement with while in the trance. The repeated plea throughout various community forums is for “a gooning app similar to Omegle” to locate them as soon as possible. Until that happens, people continue to search for their goon buddies on subreddits/Discord servers/FetLife groups.

Gooner sex

Sex between two individuals who goon. Sex between two people who goon tends to look differently: pornography continues to run; edging is assumed; dirty talking sounds similar to goonbabble; and neither partner considers ejaculation as the final destination. Descriptions about it tend to focus on less about techniques and more about a common understanding that the build-up is the true event.

Goon pills

A community inside joke regarding the fictional prescription medications that gooners allegedly take to remain in this state (“don’t forget your gooner pills”). Said joke is used as an explanation for any extremely irrational post(s). There are no pillz; there only exists a lifestyle.

Coomer

Older/more derogatory cousin of “gooner”; term used to refer to someone whose lack of control over his masturbations is evident (“Coomer”). Unlike the gooner, which suggests intentionality/craftsmanship when referring to masturbation habits; coomer implies ownership/subservience to said habits. When people say that “gooning used to mean something,” they are essentially stating that they distinguish between being a gooner vs. a coomer

Mindful mindlessness

The paradox at the centre of the goon state, coined in the community’s best-known beginner FAQ: totally blank and totally focused at the same time. You’re 100% locked onto the pleasure while your thinking brain goes quiet. People chasing it for the first time are usually told the same thing: stop trying, keep edging.

Gooner Slang: Bodies and Acts

Goonstick

An informal slang word, within the gooner culture, for referring to a cock – whether yours or anybody else’s. Typically used during mid-conversation (i.e., “bate your goonstick”). Involuntarily silly, but silly on purpose. The silliness of the language is intended to be outrageous, due to the fact that outrageous is typically the aim when your brain is operating at 10% capacity.

Goonbutton

Same level of informality. Refers to a woman’s clitoris. A highly publicized FetLife thread entitled “my clit is my penis” uses such language. For example, goonbutton, goonstick, girl dick — can refer to the same thing based upon the user’s preference. According to one commenter “sometimes you’re in the mood to rub your clit, and sometimes you’re in the mood to bate your penis.”

Pumpies

Slang for strokes within babble speak — specifically, “pump pump pump.” Can be requested in the plural form (typically — e.g., “I need your pumpies”) and/or begged for. Other related babble-horny creations include rubbies, cummies and creamies. If you consider this type of vocabulary ridiculous — you are correct. Ridiculous is precisely how it is. However, it seems to be a very successful method of obtaining stimulation once you reach approximately eight edges.

Girlcock / clitdick

Informal gooner slang for a woman’s clitoris being referred to and treated similarly to a penis: jerking, stroking, calling erect & hard. Anatomically, the clitoris and penis are essentially the same organ that developed differently. This similarity was discovered by the gooning community with great glee. Both trans-women and cis-women utilize these terms; for trans-women — the term has a literal application.

T-dick / t-clit

A trans-masculine individual’s enlarged clitoris resulting from taking hormone replacement therapy (testosterone). Many times large enough to be able to be stimulated using fingers similar to a small cock. Within gooner communities — many trans-bators write about stimulating their t-dicks utilizing the exact same babble as everybody else does. The gooning scene is — regardless of what else you may say about it — extremely flexible in regards to gender.

Handpussy

Your own folded over hand, utilized as a hole to thrust into instead of as a fist that you would stroke. While there is no doubt that thrusting into a stationary hand could feel somewhat more similar to actual sexual activity than simply masturbating — it is its own style of technique lineage. Watch any type of bator content and you’ll clearly see the distinction between individuals who primarily focus on stroking versus those who utilize a more thrusting motion.

Trigger / triggered

Within the gooner vernacular — anything that makes your body become aroused involuntarily: a phrase, an image, a specific word — even somebody elses babble. “You’re triggering me so badly,” is actually considered a compliment. Triggers that are conditioned are indeed a reality; some people intentionally create them (referencing clicker training) and then claim — albeit excitedly — about the aftermath.

Sinking

Entering into the state of being in a goon — typically expressed as an expression of desire (“I hope you sink”). The visual concept is that pleasure is quicksand, with resistance being either temporary and/or optional. Similar: “Too Far Gone,” the semi-pleasured, semi-alarmist self-report from someone whose kinks have escalated significantly further than where they began.

Goonbrain

The cognitive condition while in session: cloudy, dull-headed, drool-y, focused. Individuals express achieving “being stupid” as a goal — not merely an unintended consequence. The cloudiness dissipates after stopping — or ejaculating; roughly when post-nut clarity arrives asking what you’ve done for the last 4 hours.

Feral

Favorite descriptor for the unpolished, instinctual versions of arousal: humping, rubbing against pillows, humping against nothing. One FetLife users’ all-time list included “girls ferally humping”. To be feral is desirable here; dignified and controlled is acceptable for the remaining 23 hours of each day.

Orgasm Types

Comparison of full, ruined, denied and hands-free orgasms

Full orgasm

The typical orgasm: peak + ejaculation + the wave of relief, followed (for most guys) by a refractory period and the sudden urge to shut all browser tabs. In edging circles, this type is referred to as ‘release’ & viewed as something that occurs by choice, rather than fate. Some reserve it for weeks while others decide against it altogether.

Ruined orgasm

An orgasm that has been deprived of its pay-off: you reach just past the point of no return in terms of stimulation and then all stimulation ceases. Cum flows out (usually in drips), however the climactic sensation is missing. Done properly, there will be no refractory period & very little sex drive depletion allowing you to continue. People describe experiencing a desire to leap out of their skin. That is what makes it enjoyable.

Ruin (as a verb)

To purposefully result in a ruined orgasm for yourself or another person. The common self-ruining technique from the community: edge until you are just beyond the edge of the point where you cannot be stopped from releasing, then cease all stimulation and completely relax your pelvic muscles. Cum will pour out with no sense of an orgasm having occurred. It takes great deal of skill to successfully accomplish this & failure results in you reaching an orgasm.

Ejaculatory orgasm (EO)

The technical name for the average male orgasm. Used within guides for achieving multiple male orgasms to distinguish it from the higher-level types. One author refers to it as the “crotch sneeze” experienced by nearly every man his entire life. Brief, pleasant and promptly followed by a refractory period ending your session.

Non-ejaculatory orgasm (NEO)

An orgasm occurring without ejaculation, accomplished by contracting the PC muscle as hard as possible at the time of climax thus preventing anything from coming out while still producing the sensation. No refractory period exists therefore, you may string them together. This is essentially the “multiple male orgasms” trick people practicing tantric techniques have been teaching for centuries minus the incense.

PNEO

A prolonged (or peaking) non-ejaculatory orgasm: an NEO extended from mere seconds into minutes, one continuous roll of climax to ride, rather than a simple spike. Guides depict PNEOs lasting 5 or 10 minutes and leaving individuals physically exhausted due to orgasming, which is a sentence many men likely had to read twice.

Prostate orgasm

An orgasm brought upon by stimulating the prostate rather than the penis. Deeper, a full-body experience, typically no refractory period & notoriously unreliable until it is not. Reached via toys, fingers, or serious kegel exercises. Generally taint massage serves as the gateway & for some, it is the sissygasm.

Sissygasm

Community jargon for a hands-free anal/prostate orgasm, usually during penetration or plug play with the cock un-touched. Derived from sissy kink, the physiological response is simply the prostate doing its job. One veteran edging guide’s author reports having experienced exactly one such occasion and calls it phenomenal.

Hands-free orgasm (HFO)

Cumming with absolutely no physical contact at all, commonly due to erotic audio, hypno files, fantasy or sheer conditioning. The holy grail of several members of the audio community. Related: hands-free cumming resulting from a full bladder, nipples, or simply humping the air. If you believe this is merely a myth, then the naughty audio archive would like a word.

Mindgasm

An orgasm induced solely by controlling/ focusing your pelvic area and devoid of any physical contact; named after the guided training application of the same name designed to teach you how to achieve this type. Users claim they’ve become “leaky fools” capable of experiencing an orgasm anywhere discreetly. This is either a superpower or a hindrance depending on your schedule.

Goongasm

An orgasm occurring *during* trance-induced gooning: not an intended conclusion but the wave that catches you mid-hypnotic state, sometimes involuntarily. Goon-babble describes it as brain static (“many lots and lots of static; no thought”). Distinct from the goon-cano which is an intentionally destructive conclusion.

Forced orgasm

Being subjected to continued stimulation beyond the point of an orgasm despite pleading and/or restraining; always pre-negotiated. The opposite of denial: whereas you were never permitted to ejaculate, now you are never permitted to cease. One post described it concisely: “there was nothing I could do about it”. Consent is necessary prior to participation in this activity.

Overstimulation

Continued stimulation applied to freshly-orgasmed hypersensitive areas. The twitching, shivering, “make them beg to continue and make me stop” region. Frequently combined with forced orgasms & post-orgasm torture. On the recipient side, it feels like far too much pleasure is being sent through too many sensations simultaneously, which explains why individuals request it.

Cum-in-pants orgasm

Finishing fully clothed, untouched or from grinding alone, soaking your underwear through. A well-loved sub-genre: hundreds of comments pile up on threads celebrating boys who cum in their boxers. Both aspects include regression (this is how all of our first accidents occurred) and the complete humiliation of creating a mess.

Squirting

For vulvas: discharging fluids at climax, a colloquialism for an extremely intense finish in goonette speak (“i squirt really hard when i let go”) . In earlier male edging guides the term was sometimes utilized to refer to a large ruin; context dictates whether the former or latter usage applies. In either case place a towel under hand before proceeding.

Internal ejaculation

Going over the top so softly that semen is released internally with no external indication, sometimes even without the full climax sensation. Edgers stumble upon it accidentally: you kegel through each contraction, feel virtually nothing, then discover your underwear is wet approximately 5 minutes later. Internal ejaculation typically creates some degree of refractory period.

The fizzle

The anti-climax felt after edging for an excessively lengthy duration: you ultimately permit yourself an orgasm & it arrives dull, numb & lacking sensation in your nerves; overwork has left your nerves unable to care. Sixteen year old fetlife threads use identical verbiage describing this occurrence as those using similar descriptions today. To alleviate this condition one should attempt shorter sessions or more frequent releases. Nobody heeds this advice.

Denial and Control

Orgasm denial

Denial of an orgasm may involve either solo or mutual activities, but will always require that the individual(s) involved deny orgasm, and potentially sexual satisfaction altogether. Denial of an orgasm does not have to occur for an entire period of time, though that is certainly an option. The only requirement is that the individual(s) refrain from experiencing orgasm during the duration of the activity. Denial of an orgasm increases the intensity of sexual experiences and creates anticipation for a potential future climax.

Partial denial

Partial denial is essentially a hybrid between denial of an orgasm and allowing some type of sexual gratification. It is based on a set of rules that allow individuals to experience some degree of sexual satisfaction while denying others. For example, partial denial could include rules such as no full orgasms, but permits ruining/leaking at some point. This method is used by many who engage in denial for extended periods of time as it allows individuals to manage their desires over longer periods of time.

Full denial

Full denial is when an individual denies themselves orgasm completely. It also includes denying oneself any type of sexual gratification including ruining/leaking. In addition to denying oneself orgasm, full denial also includes avoiding sexual contact. Many view full denial as the ultimate challenge of denial. Streak culture lives here: 184 days, 317 days, “I didn’t cum all of 2025.” Past a couple of weeks, people report the cravings building until, in one Fetlife regular’s words, “your mind turns off and you’d do anything to cum.”

Orgasm control

When multiple parties are participating in denial, a common way to establish dominance and control within the relationship is through orgasm control. When a party controls another’s orgasms, they may use various methods to ensure the submissive achieves orgasm or delays achieving orgasm. These methods may include verbal commands, punishment for premature ejaculation, or reward systems for maintaining control over one’s orgasm.

Tease and denial (T&D)

Tease and Denial (T&D) is a variant of denial that focuses primarily on foreplay and build-up before ultimately depriving the individual of orgasm. A typical scenario would begin with build-up followed by prolonged tease and eventually leading to a climax. The goal is to create a sense of tension and anxiety before ultimately denying the individual an opportunity to experience orgasm.

Permission

Permission is a critical component in many forms of denial. Whether it is asking for permission to experience an orgasm, permission to ejaculate prematurely or simply permission to continue engaging in a particular act, many individuals rely heavily on obtaining consent prior to proceeding with a particular action.

Begging

Begging is a natural result of participation in prolonged denial. Individuals who are subjected to denial typically find themselves begging for relief from their own desires. While begging can take on many different forms, it can range anywhere from fake begging (which is part of the game and enjoyed by both parties) to true begging (that occurs once an individual reaches a certain level of deprivation).

Cum on command

Cum on Command is a specific type of denial where an individual is expected to reach orgasm upon receiving a command from their partner. This requires extensive training and prolonged exposure to high levels of arousal. Once mastered, however, it provides a means for individuals to reach orgasm rapidly regardless of how long they have been denied.

“Good girls don’t cum”

This phrase has become popular in many online communities surrounding denial. Many see this as a way to assert control over a partner’s ability to experience pleasure. The other half posts rebuttals like “I’m a grown woman and I’ve never claimed to be good.” Both camps are enjoying themselves. Regardless, both perspectives demonstrate the appeal of using denial as a means of asserting power or expressing intimacy.

Delayed, not denied

Many individuals struggle with the concept of delayed versus denied. Simply put, delayed refers to the act of delaying an orgasm whereas denied implies refusing an orgasm altogether. Using delayed language helps many individuals feel more comfortable with the idea of delaying orgasm.

Chastity

Chastity devices are used to restrict access to the genital area. Typically these devices resemble belts or cages and provide a physical barrier between an individual’s body parts. By limiting access to an individual’s body parts, chastity devices serve as a means of controlling when an individual can experience pleasure.

Reverse chastity

Reverse chastity is similar to traditional chastity except the device serves as a reminder to an individual that they must remain accessible. Rather than restricting access, reverse chastity emphasizes accessibility and availability. This style of chastity encourages individuals to maintain a heightened state of arousal throughout their daily routines.

Locktober / NNN / Denial December

These three examples represent various types of monthly calendars created around denying oneself orgasm. Each calendar represents an additional challenge beyond what was previously attempted. Although each calendar differs slightly, they share the same underlying theme: creating obstacles for individuals attempting to satisfy their needs.

One upvote, one edge

The interactive challenge format: you post, and every upvote you collect owes you an edge. The community has a love-hate thing going with these (“stop with the one upvote one edge posts already, Jesus” collected hundreds of upvotes, all of which presumably counted). Related formats include edge-per-comment, task roulette and wheel spins.

No-touch day

Some individuals choose to implement no touch days into their denial routine. No touch days are meant to help individuals regain sensitivity in order to enhance the overall quality of their subsequent edges.

Body, Fluids and Physiology

Precum

The first drop of fluid that leaks from a man’s penis when he is sexually stimulated. The amount increases significantly as he edges closer to orgasm. This liquid is secreted from the Cowper’s gland continually while stimulating. Community members wear their ability to produce copious quantities of precum as a badge of honor.

Nature’s lube

This is another name for pre-cum. This fluid is very slick. Members of the community note that they do not need lubricant when using this liquid as it is constantly replenishing itself mid-edge. One poster’s advice for reaching the goon state was to get “obsessed with leaking precum… nature’s lube will keep on flowing and you can reach the virtuous circle of horny bliss.”

Leaking

Fluid that escapes without an orgasm. Examples include dripping or seeping fluid from the urethra, fluid soaking through underwear, etc. A Fetlife dominant’s rule for whether you’re really at the edge: “if the tip ain’t glistening, you aren’t listening.” Leaks do not end a denial streak.

Grool

Female arousal fluid. Specifically, the thick, stringy, and noticeable type of fluid produced by extended teasing. Goonettes consider the presence of visible grool a sign of being “at the goon state”. They view it similarly to how some communities view pre-cum, as evidence of sexual arousal.

Refractory period

Post-orgasmic shutdown: time (usually anywhere from minutes to hours) in which achieving arousal again is difficult, and the penis does not respond well. Physiologically this is the end of a male session. There are ways to circumvent this response, such as using non-ejaculatory orgasms (NEOs), prostate stimulation and other methods. The onset of refractoriness is considered the definition of “you actually came” in many rules used in edging.

Blue balls

Dull aching sensation in the testicles due to prolonged sexual arousal without climax. While painful, blue balls are harmless and the majority of men welcome them. Often seen in edging communities as a “badge of honor”, there are countless examples of men bragging about having blue balls for long periods of time and embracing them. Eventually blue balls subside naturally. In the edging community, a common solution is to continue edging, which has no scientific basis and is practiced consistently among edging enthusiasts.

Blue vulva

Pelvic heaviness and/or throbbing caused by denied orgasm. Less frequently referenced than blue balls, both conditions result in similar physical symptoms. Like blue balls, many women in denial cultures accept these symptoms as normal and even refer to them as a “feature.”

Hyperspermia

Producing excessive amounts of semen. Occasionally referred to in the edging community as a self-descriptive trait from individuals who produce excessively large quantities of pre-cum (“I have hyperspermia…I’m going to leak worse and worse”). Medical definitions aside, most individuals producing excessive amounts of precum are experiencing an extended duration of denied sex rather than suffering from an actual medical condition.

Prejac

Short for premature ejaculators: those who experience orgasm quickly, typically in under 60 seconds or a few minutes. In traditional settings it is viewed negatively; however, in this community it is accepted and even celebrated as a kink. Many individuals who are prone to rapid orgasm are teased extensively until they cannot delay orgasm anymore.

PC muscle

Pubococcygeus muscle, located in the pelvic area. When tightened, it stops urine flow mid-stream. It also contracts involuntarily during ejaculation. By contracting the muscle voluntarily prior to ejaculation, an individual can prevent ejaculation. All advanced techniques mentioned in this manual (such as NEOs, ruins, mindgasms and holding at the PONR) rely on control of this muscle.

Kegels

The exercises performed to strengthen the PC muscle by tightening then releasing repeatedly for short periods of time (up to 20 seconds) and increasing frequency and length of contractions over time. Kegel exercises are recommended in virtually every edging guide ever written. There are apps available for organizing kegel training.

Reverse kegels

A gentle voluntary push of the pelvic floor outward, as opposed to the inward clench of a regular kegel (think the start of forcing a pee). Where kegels brake, reverse kegels release pressure. Alternating between the two allows users to maintain a steady rhythm near orgasm providing greater control over ejaculation timing and often results in milking additional precum. Underused, badly named, extremely effective.

The STAB technique

Cool down mnemonic developed by the Male Multiples community to assist with avoiding orgasm (going over): Squeeze (hold kegel tightly); Think (think of something else); Avoid (do not use head strokes/switch to different stroke); Breathe (breathe slowly and deeply). Utilizing this method at around 8.5 will give users enough time to recover from their current level of excitement so they do not go over.

Twitching

Unintentional muscular contractions occurring in areas surrounding the penis/clitoris when nearing or past the edge of orgasm. These contractions are often referred to as either “genital twitching” or “orgasm rehearsal”. Genital twitching is often cited as a favorite activity by many people within various communities because it provides visual cues that an individual is close to orgasm.

Post-nut clarity

The abrupt mental sobriety seconds after orgasm, when arousal-logic evaporates and your recent browser history becomes a crime scene. The community deals with it constantly, mostly in the form of people deleting entire accounts post-nut and sheepishly returning (“it’s a canon event”). The neurochemistry is real: dopamine crashes, prolactin spikes, judgement returns.

Techniques

Tiny circles

Using one or two fingers to draw small circles under the head of the penis typically near the frenulum. A long-lasting tease for the ultimate control, lots of pre-come, and can be sustained for up to an hour. This was originally referred to by the author as “teasing yourself crazy” – which is very apt.

Palming

A circular motion made around the head of the penis without touching the bottom side of the shaft. An entertaining form of teasing for a partner and an exercise in discipline when used alone, palming provides the stimulus needed to maintain arousal without providing enough to achieve an orgasm. It has been recommended frequently in all “How Do I Keep Him On The Edge?” forums.

Ball slap

Gently slapping or flicking the testicles mid-edge. The brief shock will turn into a feeling of pleasure and stimulate the release of pre-come; also serves as an excellent way to prevent oneself from reaching an orgasm. While not enjoyable for many people, those that find enjoyment in this activity often find it cheap, unusual, yet effective. It is not everyone’s cup of tea; which is why many of its enthusiasts find it a benefit.

Milking

Deliberate and slow strokes focused on extracting fluid versus bringing about orgasm. Precome during an extended session, or draining completely after a prolonged denial period (“tease me, deny me for days, then milk me dry”). Also the generic term for prostate play causing fluid to exit without orgasm.

Frot / frotting

Two cocks (or clits, as female participants have enthusiastically adopted this term) rubbing together with direct contact. The skin on skin contact does not include penetration. Often found in buddy fantasies where mutual masturbation is preferred, especially in groups engaging in bate activities together. The main attraction is symmetry: Both parties experience the exact same sensations simultaneously, while possibly observing each other lose control.

Docking

Stretching the foreskin of one man over the head of another man’s cock. Even within these niche communities, docking may be considered extreme. However, it has appeared in several of our foreskin appreciation threads, often documented with a sense of awe, as if learning that such a thing is possible. It requires at least one intact foreskin and a surprising amount of cooperation.

Syntribation

Rubbing one’s thighs repeatedly in order to stimulate oneself via rhythmic squeezing or crossing motions. Unlike traditional forms of masturbation, syntribation uses the legs only, thus requiring no hands. Due to its minimal nature, it can be practiced discreetly almost anywhere: coffee shops, buses, offices, schools etc., which is where many practitioners have reported performing this action. Many women responded to learning about the term “syntribation”, stating they have performed this type of action for years and had no idea what it was actually called.

Pillow humping

Using a folded pillow for pressure/friction to simulate masturbation, without using hands. Since the sensation produced is difficult to reach orgasm from, pillow humping is naturally suited to provide hours of edging potential. It is also the community’s single most asked how-to, so we wrote the complete pillow humping guide to answer it properly.

Prone masturbation

Face down masturbation, grinding into a mattress or pillow. In general acceptable as long as done with softer mattresses/pillows; however the sole cautionary note is that excessive usage of prone position masturbation could lead to desensitized areas elsewhere. The remedy lies in practicing variety. See additional information in the pillow guide referenced above.

Dry humping

Grinding against another person (or their thigh, or a pillow between you) with clothes on. Adults have discovered this classic teenage foreplay as an alternative method for achieving edging because the fabric barrier keeps either party from finishing too easily. “Me and my partner dry hump like high schoolers” threads are a recurring, wholesome-filthy genre.

Cockwarming

Keeping a cock stationary inside of a mouth/vagina/ass without movement (during a performance/game/napping/school lecture etc.). Cock warming requires no thrusting or pursuit of orgasm – only passive stillness. Intimacy combined with torture is the primary appeal. Each slight involuntary muscle twitch will cause excitement. It is the community’s second favourite pastime after edging itself.

Clitwarming

Analogous to cock-warming, clitwarming was coined in a thread that promptly went community-famous: resting your mouth over the clit and whole vulva, gently, for the length of a movie, without properly going anywhere. People who had done it confirmed immediately that “it feels as good as it sounds.” A genuinely new term still spreading.

Strapwarming

Complete the trio: keeping a strap-on/dildo warmed by simply holding it inside without riding it (while playing games/etc.).. Like cock warming, popular among gamers (riding dildo while participating in a ranked match) and couples enjoying viewing each other’s reactions. As stated earlier – stillness is key: moving means it’s no longer warming.

Soaking

Stationary inside of a flesh-light/partner – not moving and simply allowing arousal build through stillness. The masturbator version (soaking w/flesh-light) consists of laying cock-inside toy while working/gaming/watching etc. – edging based upon random micro-movements. Essentially similar to cock-warming but solitary friendly and surprisingly lazy (which is a compliment).

Full-bladder edging

Edging with a consciously full bladder. The increased pressure enhances all sensations and adds an additional desperate squirming factor; Some women state that the added pressure causes them to have difficulty holding back an orgasm; Men utilize having a full bladder as an anti-ejaculatory brake (i.e. you can’t perform both at once). Familiarize yourself with your plumbing prior to attempting this.

Taint massage

Massage of the perineum (the space between a male’s testicles and anus); This provides external access to the prostate for individuals not prepared for internal access; It increases the edge and results in further discharge. As indicated in most edging guides – taint massage is often suggested as a first step toward access to internal prostate play.

The glove trick

Edging in a latex or nitrile glove to reduce sensitivity and increase session time. One documented technique for increasing endurance: reducing skin contact using gloves reportedly allowed one practitioner to stretch his ability to edge “by days, sometimes weeks”. Alternate gloved/bare hands for contrast. Although visually unappealing – extremely effective.

Conditioning and Mind Games

Orgasm conditioning

Intentionally creating a Pavlovian association between an innocuous cue and sexual arousal or orgasm via repetition: e.g., a noise, a phrase, a countdown – each time associated with climax. The community views this as part science experiment, part consensually hacking your brain. Consent is emphasized here.

Clicker training

The well-known technique: a smartphone app dog-clicker, clicked at every edge and spammed during orgasm for weeks, until eventually the click alone can drop you. The community’s legendary writer (“Trained myself to get wet on command with a dog clicker”) is a mix of lab notes and confession.

Countdown conditioning

Using a verbal countdown (“3… 2… 1”), training orgasm to arrive upon the completion of the count, by consistently providing counts prior to allowed climaxes until the count alone causes the same. This is the lower tech cousin to clicker training and is included as standard equipment in many JOI scripts, which includes countdowns at the close as a nearly required element.

Erotic hypnosis

Audio (or a live partner), using techniques such as induction, suggestion and trance to induce arousal, denial, hands-free orgasms or installed triggers. There is a huge body of content surrounding this topic created by people within the community. Many goons fall into this area because the light trance experienced while gooning is right next door to the induced trance. Files labeled ‘Hypno’ are common in goon caves.

Binaural beats

Two frequency audio tones that allegedly synchronizes brain waves with frequencies used in meditation music. When layered underneath erotic audio intended to increase the user’s ability to enter a hypnotic or trance state. While there is little scientific evidence supporting this idea, many users claim to experience increased effectiveness and devote their time listening to droning soundscape while being aroused. Binaural beats are frequently layered along with moaning tracks and whisper loops in multi-hour playlist sessions.

Wet on command

The goal state of goonette conditioning: physical arousal arriving on cue, from a word, a click, a partner’s tone. Reported as genuinely achievable with weeks of consistent pairing. Comes with a warning label the community writes itself: triggers installed for fun still fire in the supermarket.

HFO audio

Erotic audio engineered to produce a hands-free orgasm: slow build, breathy pacing, trigger phrases, a countdown. Succubus roleplays are the flagship genre, popular enough that one girlfriend famously learned the format to perform it live as a birthday present. Best consumed with headphones and low expectations that become high ones.

Ramblefap

A style of erotic audio: unscripted, stream-of-consciousness horny rambling, often recorded mid-masturbation. The audio equivalent of goonbabble. Fans stack multiple ramblefap files over binaural beds to build a wall of incoherent filth to edge inside. Searchable by tag on the big amateur audio archives.

Porn Formats and Instructions

JOI

Jerk-off instructions: a performer (or text, or an app) directing your session. Speeds during stroking, stop times, edge times, countdowns, permission or refusal upon completion. The JOI format provides the content of the session, therefore a well-executed JOI is essentially an outsourced edging session. Although there are many types of JOI (girl, femdom, mom, degrading etc.) the most popular type of JOI is girl-voiced.

CEI

Guidelines on how to eat your own semen: A dirty cousin to JOI, where the person directs you to clean-up your mess. Often threats are made toward this guideline and rarely followed due to clarity of vision being delayed until post ejaculation. It’s common within the community to make light of CEI compliance percentages rounding down to zero if they were tracked.

PMV

Porn Music Video: clips edited to match music beats, designed to stimulate users to extreme levels. This is the basis of goon cave standards for the majority of users. Since PMVs do the pacing for you via editing, compilation style PMVs with increasing tempo are nearly akin to edging software: the beat drops, everyone strokes faster, and no one gave consent to the bridge.

Cockhero

Stroke To The Beat Videos: interactive videos using a metronome pulse with clips of varying speed and time, including hold periods and challenges. Sessions can last anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours and act as guided endurance testing for edging. Challenge versions provide the added benefit of almost failing and building in near-miss rounds. Named after Guitar Hero, but played with much less plastic.

Edging challenge videos

This is the larger category that cock hero falls into: any video created as a survival test (i.e., “Can you make it through to the end without ejaculating?”). Experienced users agree that a mindset trick will help prevent failure: If you have already determined not to ejaculate at the end, then you’re less likely to fail at making it through the entire video. Just anticipating the finish is what gets most people.

GWA / erotic audio

Gone Wild Audio and its associated products: amateur erotic audio products that are labeled by kink (i.e. JOI/HFO/RambleFap/Hypno) and produced by fans of erotic audio rather than by adult film production companies. This is the number one substitute for pornography preferred among the community due to creative alternatives doing the work visually. Start with the naughty audio roundup if you find the library overwhelming.

Multi-screen setup

One of the defining features of the goon cave: multiple (two/three/six/etc.) screens playing pornography simultaneously, or one projector wall. The idea behind multiscreen setups is saturation; with pornography coming from everywhere, users’ attention cannot rest and they achieve a trance state faster. Budget version: phone held against the screen. Veteran version: Spreadsheet tracking of playlist timing.

Edging games

Edging software: Reddit-based automated instructional generation tools that include metronomes and random dice for edge/ruin. Web based multiplayer games that allow users to compete while edging. Roulette scripts that automatically roll numbers and assign tasks to those numbers. Card decks used specifically for edging sessions. Randomized timer applications. The history of edging games stretches back years; In Fetlife forums dating back to 2009 members described creating their own card systems for edging and randomized slideshow “cum cards” for edging. See List of Edging Tasks for an analog equivalent.

Metronome edging

Using a metronome as your guide for stroking. Changing your speed only when instructed by the beat. Using a metronome takes away your instincts to increase speed as you get closer to the edge (which is what causes most sessions to end early). Used alone, in cockhero, or in partner play as a way to inflict cruelty on others.

Being your own porn

No-porn method: viewing yourself masturbating/grinding and producing noise. Constantly recommended to individuals attempting to reduce screen dependency without reducing session frequency. People often report that watching themselves masturbate actually works as effectively as other methods, surprising those that attempt it and non-surprising those that have been reading posts regarding this topic.

People, Dynamics and the Goon Economy

Findom

Financial domination: getting turned on by giving money or taking it. Tributes, drains, paypigs, wallet control. Adjacent to gooning because edged, goonbrained people make terrible financial choices, and that is the kink. Treat it with extreme caution, findom is how people get hurt.

Tribute

Either paying a domme or creator, or (old internet slang) cumming on or to someone’s image or post as Tribute. Both definitions still exist within the community. “Want a tribute?” in a goonette’s thread almost always means the second one. Etiquette: only give tributes when explicitly welcome. It usually is.

E-whore

Someone who engages in slutty behavior online, exchanging nude images, sessions or attention; sometimes for money, sometimes simply for the pleasure of being used. Self applied & affectionately: “my friends don’t know i’m an ewhore”. The double life aspect of being wholesome friend by day / filth merchant by night is the majority of the fun.

Healslut

Gamer kink: playing the heal role in a multiplayer game while being submissive to your team; often using a vibrator wired to events/deaths/voice commands. Began in Overwatch (“every time you yell at your Healslut, another Mercy gets her wings”) and now its own small sub culture with matchmaking threads.

Free use

Negotiated dynamic where one partner may initiate sex/touch at anytime with prior standing consent given, and that can be revoked anytime. Common couple goal for many gooners (“mutual free use” is #1 on relationship bucket lists). Fantasy version = spontaneous; functional version = more calendars & checkins than the fantasy admits.

Subspace

Floaty endorphin-drunk altered state of mind submissives experience when under sustained control or sensation. Relevant here because long edging/denial produce this consistently; being edged by someone for 1 hour lands many people somewhere between goon state & sub space. People in it cant negotiate which is why they negotiate before hand.

Aftercare

Wind down period following intense play: water/warmth/reassurance/snacks/present while brains come back online. Applies equally to edging marathons/denial games as much as impact play; a person who has begged/cried through ten edges needs landing, not closed laptop & good night.

CNC

Consensual non-consent: pre-negotiated play that performs force or resistance. Appears throughout rougher fantasy thread versions within the community always (healthy version) with safeword machinery beneath. The subreddit’s moderators plainly stated: kinky roleplay does not equal real life.

Relapse

Return to gooning/porn after quitting/delete everything/post nut clarity purge. The delete & return cycle is treated with familiar ruefulness by the community; entire threads beg people to stop deleting accounts because everyone comes back eventually. Genuine attempts to stop deserve better support than Relapse jokes, and the good threads say so.

Edge-o-matic

Device created for hobbyists to read pelvic pressure sensors to determine level of arousal & automatically shut off vibration right before orgasm. Machine run denial. Open source cousins exist (nogasm); total fantasy served: tied up & edged 40 times without way to stop = dream.

The goon economy

Informal marketplace around all this: OnlyFans creators, findommes, custom JOI commissions, Discord servers, apps for edging, toy makers. Mainly mentioned here as consumer advisory: community safety threads constantly warn about bots, sextortion, predatory accounts. Keep the kink identity firewalled from the legal name, and assume DMs are recorded.

Keeping It Healthy (a Short, Honest Note)

A list of this length can make the whole scene feel like a competitive sport, so, plainly: edging is a kink, not an obligation. The community itself polices this. The most upvoted safety threads all say some version of “your body is worth taking this more seriously” and ask the one diagnostic question that matters: can you actually stop? If sessions are eating into sleep, work or relationships, or you keep answering that question with a no, that’s when it’s time to slow down or talk to someone, and the sub’s own veterans will tell you the exact same thing. Hydrate, mind the friction, keep real life bigger than the cave.

FAQ

What does gooning mean? Gooning is edging for so long that you enter a trance-like, dazed, intensely aroused mental state where pleasure crowds out normal thought. It’s distinct from ordinary masturbation, which is quick and finish-focused. The community defines it as a state you reach, not just a word for touching yourself.

What’s the difference between edging and gooning? Edging is the technique: approaching orgasm and backing off. Gooning is the altered state long edging can produce. All gooning involves edging; most edging never becomes gooning. If you’re coherent enough to type properly, the community would say you’re edging, not gooning.

What is a goonette? A goonette is a female gooner: a woman who edges for long sessions and chases the goon-state trance. The term is worn proudly in the community, which has a large and loud female membership despite gooning’s reputation as a men’s hobby.

What is the PONR? PONR stands for point of no return: the moment when orgasm becomes unstoppable even if all stimulation ends. Edging is the practice of getting close to the PONR without crossing it. On the community’s 1 to 10 arousal scale, the PONR sits at nine.

What is a ruined orgasm? A ruined orgasm happens when stimulation stops right as orgasm begins: semen releases but the climax sensation mostly doesn’t arrive. Done correctly it skips the refractory period and libido drop, so play can continue. Some deniers use ruins as a pressure valve during long streaks.

What does cockwarming mean? Cockwarming is holding a cock inside a mouth, vagina or ass without moving, often while doing something else like watching a show or gaming. The point is stillness, intimacy and slow-burn teasing rather than working toward orgasm. Clitwarming and strapwarming are the newer equivalents for other anatomy.

What is syntribation? Syntribation is masturbating by rhythmically squeezing or rubbing the thighs together, hands-free. Because it’s nearly invisible, it’s the technique behind most “caught her in public” stories. Many women do it for years before learning it has a name.

Is edging bad for you? For most people, no. Edging is normal and can improve orgasm control and stamina. The honest caveats: marathon sessions can chafe, blue balls ache (harmlessly), and any kink that starts eating sleep, work or relationships needs scaling back. If you can’t stop when you decide to, treat that seriously.

Where to Go Next

You now speak the language. To actually use it: the list of edging tasks turns half these terms into things to try tonight, the ruined orgasm tasks cover the ruin-and-deny end, the gooning tasks are for losing a whole evening, and the pillow humping guide handles the hands-free classics. Vocabulary optional. Leaking mandatory.
