One geography note before you plan a route: ask a local where the leather bars are and most will say Boystown (officially Northalsted), and that’s only half true anymore. Cell Block is the last leather holdout directly on the Halsted strip. The real cluster today sits three miles north on Clark Street in Rogers Park, where Touché has been pouring drinks for the harness-and-chaps crowd since 1977, next door to Jackhammer’s basement fetish bar. Plan your night around that triangle, not the Halsted strip alone.

One honesty note: the Leather Archives & Museum, the only accredited museum in the world dedicated to leather and kink history, closed its Rogers Park building on May 24, 2026 for a year-long renovation. It’s still worth knowing about for a future trip, and its calendar has off-site programming in the meantime, but don’t build a visit around walking through its doors this year.

Cell Block

Chicago’s only leather and fetish bar left directly on the Northalsted strip, running since 1996. The front room is a no-frills neighborhood gay bar; the back bar, open Friday and Saturday only, enforces a strict leather dress code for people who came to do more than have a drink. It’s also home to the long-running monthly Puppy Patrol pup-play nights and turns into a major hub during IML weekend.

Jackhammer / The Hole

A multi-level Rogers Park nightlife venue built around The Rec Room, The Den, an outdoor patio, and The Hole, a basement fetish bar with its own posted dress code and a noticeably lower-attitude crowd than some of the bigger-name clubs. Geographically distinct from Northalsted, worth knowing if you’re mapping out a Clark Street night rather than a Halsted one.

Touché

One of the oldest gay leather bars in the country, pouring drinks in Rogers Park since 1977. Right around the corner from Jackhammer, and the anchor of the Clark Street cluster that’s quietly replaced Halsted as Chicago’s real leather corridor. Open late most nights, later on weekends.

Chicago Eagle

A revival of one of the first leather bars in the US, which closed roughly fourteen years ago at its original Andersonville address. The name came back at a new Uptown location, reopening Memorial Day weekend 2026 inside the former Baton Show Lounge space. It’s already a victory-party venue for Chicago Fetish Weekend, so expect it to become a fixture on the annual calendar fast.

Chicago Rose Club

6525 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60626

Chicago’s oldest pansexual BDSM and leather club, a private dungeon in a converted basement, run as an all-volunteer nonprofit. Thursdays are alcohol-free education nights, 18 and up with ID; Friday and Saturday run BYOB play parties. Membership or registration is expected rather than a walk-in door, and they also do private space rentals and keep a Discord community.

Galleria Domain 2

Bucktown/Logan Square area, exact address given to members and registered guests

A nonprofit sex-positive kink and BDSM social club running members-only events and some open community nights. It tried, and failed, to open a second location in River North in 2015 after fierce neighborhood opposition made local news, which tells you something about how the city’s zoning politics and kink community have historically collided. Check their site for current guest-visit policy before assuming you can walk in.

Chicago’s kink and leather scene is its own world, mostly separate from the city’s broader adult nightlife, but one venue is distinctive enough to be worth knowing about.

Admiral Theatre

It closed its doors on May 24, 2026 for a roughly year-long renovation, with programming continuing off-site through partner organizations in the meantime. Treat it as a future-trip stop rather than something to build this year’s visit around, and check their calendar before assuming it has reopened.

TNGC (The Next Generation of Chicago)

A pansexual social, support, and education group specifically for people 18 to 35 who are new to BDSM, explicitly built as an entry point into the wider scene rather than assuming you already know your way around.

When’s the best time to visit?

Memorial Day weekend, for IML, is the single biggest and most visible week, but also the most crowded and most expensive to book. Chicago Leather Pride Weekend in early May offers a smaller, still-authentic version of the same community with easier hotel availability, and Chicago Fetish Weekend in July caters to a more specific rubber-and-leather crowd.

Is there a dress code?

It varies by venue. Cell Block’s front bar has none; its back bar enforces a strict leather dress code on weekends. The Hole, inside Jackhammer, posts its own code. IML’s public Leather Market is casual to leather; the actual play parties at Chicago Rose Club and Galleria Domain 2 are stricter and gated by membership or RSVP.
